Warrant for the arrest of Justin Bieber issued in Argentina

An Argentinian Judge ordered the arrest of Justin Bieber if he enters the country after failure to appear at a deposition.

Singer Justin Bieber may be in some trouble if he enters Argentina after a judge issued an order for his arrest upon entering the country. Judge Banos’s order stated that he considers it pertinent that the accused be detained immediately. The judge has also ordered the arrest of the bodyguard involved in this matter.

In 2013 outside a Buenos Aires nightclub, it was reported that Bieber’s bodyguards allegedly assaulted a photographer. Upon Justin Bieber’s failure to appear at a deposition regarding the case, An Argentinian Judge issued an order for the singer’s arrest if he enters the country. The official statement was released today, by the Court Secretary, Soledad Nieto, but the judge signed the order for Bieber to be detained yesterday on Apr. 8, 2015.

The Judge’s decision was not made lightly, as he believes that the evidence was sufficient to move forward with the order. According to sources, the Judge stated, that the evidence provided by witnesses in form of video footage and photos demonstrate that Bieber asked his bodyguards to chase photographer, Diego Pesoa, because Pesoa took a picture of him after the singer expressed that he didn’t want pictures of him taken. The order to detain the singer is due to failure to appear before the Judge for the deposition, not for the incident itself.

The critical question now is whether or not the Canadian singer will be extradited if the Argentine courts request it. Canada brought in a new Extradition Act in 1999 that harmonizes the Canadian extradition system with legal fighting bodies internationally. The Act also removes vital protections that may have been previously available to Canadians. So what does all this legal jargon mean? It means that for the purpose of prosecution, Bieber can be extradited if he has been charged with an offense. However, despite the fiery media wording, Justin Bieber has not yet been charged with a crime.
