Armed robbers escape San Francisco police in wild chase that leaves woman dead

Witnesses saw the car go airborne at times and the windshield was badly damaged.

A robbery suspect struck and killed a woman during a high-speed chase in San Francisco Friday night.

Suspects in an armed robbery were seen driving in a black, four-door sedan that was speeding through the city on California Street heading east, striking a female pedestrian between Kearny and Montgomery streets, according to a KGO report.

Riders in a cable car witnessed the car being airborne sometimes and the windshield looked badly damaged. The pedestrian later died at the hospital from her injuries.

Police believe three men were in the vehicle and they tossed their guns from the car during the pursuit, and are currently at large. The vehicle is believed to be connected to several robberies that have happened over the last few days.

Police were in pursuit of the vehicle but lost it on its way to the Sterling Street on-ramp to the Bay Bridge.

Police were trying to stop the car shortly after they had committed yet another in a series of robberies shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday in the Nob Hill neighborhood. However, the car sped off and struck the woman in the crosswalk, and then hit a second pedestrian a few blocks later. It then crashed into a parked car, but was able to elude police in the South of Market neighborhood, according to an Associated Press report.

The car was later found abandoned on Treasure Island off the Bay Bridge.

The second person who had been hit by the vehicle was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police recovered two firearms that had been thrown from the vehicle.

Police believe the individuals committed three robberies Friday alone.
