Ryan Bailey has now been caught twice shipping marijuana through UPS.
A Chicago man has been arrested not once but twice now for the same thoughtless offense. Ryan Bailey, 32, was caught shipping marijuana from Colorado to Chicago. Technically, his offense was accepting and opening the package of marijuana. He had it shipped to a cell phone store in Chicago and the sender’s address was nothing more than a fictitious shipping company in Aurora, Colorado.
CBS Chicago reports that UPS alerted the Chicago Police Department of a package smelling strongly of marijuana. The package was from Colorado where pot is not only legalized for medical use, but is heavily decriminalized for recreational use.
According to authorities, Bailey was among those young entrepreneurs who trekked out west to get a piece of Colorado’s medical marijuana industry. Unfortunately, the former mortgage broker’s marijuana operation exceeded the law’s limitations which resulted in a raid on his warehouse where authorities seized over 670 plants. Bailey was acquitted in the case against his warehouse grow operation which allegedly supported the medical marijuana dispensary his wife operated at the time.
Some time later, in 2010, police raided a home in Chicago’s northwest side where they found Mr. Bailey holding a package which contained over 40 pounds of weed. The package, like the one he was recently caught opening, was shipped by UPS.
Baily says, “Some people in the industry have gotten lucky…other guys like me have gotten caught in the system.”
