Ferguson releases the thousands of insulting emails cited by the DOJ

The insensitive emails that were part of the Department of Justice condemnation of Ferguson have been released to the public.

Last month, the Department of Justice issued a scathing report of the Ferguson police department. An investigation had found widespread racism throughout the city’s law enforcement agencies and court systems. The report revealed that the police would target blacks and people of low-income in order to extract a profit.

“We have found substantial evidence of racial bias among police and court staff in Ferguson,” said the report.

The thousands of emails that were used as evidence to support the report’s claims have been released to major news networks.

The majority of the controversial emails were exchanged between a Court Clerk named Mary Ann Twitty, who has since been fired because of these emails, and two police officers, Captain Rick Henke and Sergeant William Mudd. Both officers have resigned.

The emails made crass comments about Islam, equated black people with criminals, and frequently insulted President Obama.

One email said that Obama would not be in office for long because “what black man holds a steady job for four years?”

Another showed a picture of African women participating in a traditional tribal gathering with the caption “Michelle Obama’s high school reunion”.

In a third exchange, Mr. Mudd sent Ms. Twitty an email making fun of welfare recipients:

“Last week I went to sign my dogs up for welfare. At first the lady said, ‘Dogs are not eligible to draw welfare,'” wrote Mr. Mudd. “So I explained to her that my dogs are mixed in colour, unemployed, lazy, can’t speak English and have no frigging clue who their Daddies are. They expect me to feed them, provide them with housing and medical care. So she looked in her police book to see what it takes to qualify. My dogs get their first checks Friday.”

These emails and many others were discovered as part of the federal investigation of the fatal shooting of Michael Brown by a white police officer.
