Just recently, singer Kelly Clarkson came under fire for her weight after performing as a guest on “Ellen.” In what is being called a “body shaming controversy” by E! News, Kelly responds to the public comments gracefully, keeping her dignity in tact.
“I love how people think that’s new,” she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday. She goes on to say to E!: “Like, welcome to the past 13 years!”
The singer and former winner of American Idol said that she was considered “the biggest girl” when he competed on Fox’s American Idol in 2002, as she has shared with E! News. The last 13 years is a very long time to come under scrutiny in an industry that loves to put people under an often impossibly high standard of a microscope. After receiving much criticism about her weight, the singer who has a 9-month-old daughter, River Rose Blackstock, has risen above the comments and decided to own her body and her weight, as her own.
The pop star who has enjoyed great success as a touring artist, as well as selling records in the studio has decided that, as shared with E! News, “We are who we are – whatever size. It doesn’t mean that we’re gonna be that forever. That’s the thing! Sometimes I’m more fit. Like, especially me. I’m such a creative person that I yo-yo. Sometimes I’m more fit and I get into kickboxing hardcore. And then sometimes I don’t and I’m like, “I’d rather have wine.”
Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres agreed with Clarkson in E! News, adding, “I think that’s totally fine. As long as you’re happy and as long as you feel like you’re taking care of yourself and healthy. I want you to be able to have your wine!”
On the Ellen show her send off is: “Be kind to one another.” Here, it certainly fits.
