Get ready: the Apple Watch is here, and unless you have a reservation, you’re not getting one.

On April 24, Apple will sell its first watch — priced between $349 and $17,000 — and you won’t be able to get one at your local Apple store for probably a very long time, according to a CNET report.

Preorders for the highly anticipated wearable begin April 10, and all sales will be made through a reservation system, which will likely be in place for the indefinite future, according to the report.

Even when Apple Watch officially hits the market, Apple has no plans to make the new device available in its stores to walk-ins. You won’t even be able to try out an Apple Watch at one of those iconic tables in the store. You’ll actually have to meet with a store representative for a fitting, which must be set up through appointment.

This will avoid the long lines from new iPhone launches in recent years, as the only purchases in retail stores will happen after they have been reserved online.

If you reserve an Apple Watch for in-store pickup on the first day they become available, you’d better know exactly the model, finish, and band, because if you change your mind there probably won’t be the additional parts to accommodate you.

Apple is likely making their watch available for reservation only for two reasons, according to CNET: to ensure that it will have enough inventory on hand, and to allow staff to walk through the process with potential buyers when they arrive at the store. Because the Apple Watch is so infinitely customizable and is more of a fashion-centric device, it is much different than most everything else Apple has sold. Apple wants to make sure people are comfortable with their choices and know how the device works before they are finished with the purchase.
