Police searched the family's home after the woman's employer said she hadn't shown up for work in the last two days.

Police discovered four people — including two young boys — dead in what is believed to be a murder-suicide in Oklahoma.

The family was discovered dead in a home in Tulsa on Wednesday afternoon after police conducted a welfare check on the residents, according to a Tulsa World report.

Authorities found the back door unlocked and when they went inside, they discovered the bodies of a man, a woman, and their two sons, who were both younger than 10 years old.

The employer of the woman had called police because she hadn’t shown up for work for two days and hadn’t called in sick.

Authorities believe that the man shot the woman and two children before turning the gun on himself, based on where they found the firearm in proximity to his body. The father was 42 and the mother 38. Police found the bodies in different rooms in the house.

Police believe the bodies may have spent two days in the house before being discovered, noting that a trash cart had been emptied on Tuesday but hadn’t been pulled into the garage, according to the report.

A neighbor who lived next door to the family called the deaths “shocking,” according to the report, and said that the family was “wonderful, the most kind (and) gentle people you’d ever meet.”

Another neighbor said that she noticed multiple police cars pulling up to the house Wednesday afternoon, and saw an officer start putting on latex gloves, followed by “cop car after cop car after cop car,” according to the report. The neighbor indicated that another neighbor told her about hearing noises on Monday, but thought it had something to do with trash bins.
