President Obama’s golf weekend getaway

President Obama took to the golf course for his 223rd round of golf since taking office.

His golf weekend getaway started on Saturday and played through Sunday. This was the second time in three years that he had golfed in Palm City at Floridian National Golf Club. The last time included a day with Tiger Woods and Jim Crane.

Mr. Obama teamed up Crane on Saturday, a major Democratic donor who owns the Houston Astros and is a major player in the Texas energy industry, according to Palm Beach Post.

Crane said in an interview that since President Obama can choose to go wherever he wants, and it was a huge honor that he played there.

Also in Mr. Obama’s lineup was Milton Carroll. Carroll is on the board of directors of Halliburton, the oil company closely associated with former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney.

On Sunday, Mr. Obama played with basketball star Ray Allen, former Miami Heat Alonzo Mourning and broadcaster Ahmad Rashad, a former NFL wide receiver. The day also included another round with Crane as well as Celtics co-owner Glenn Hutchins.

To round out his weekend on the course, Mr. Obama received lessons from longtime renowned golf instructor Butch Harmon.

Mr. Obama had no public events on the calendar for his time in Florida. The White House shut down media coverage and dismissed reporters from the Floridian on both days. Mr. Obama is rarely seen on the greens unlike previous presidents who would allow reporters to watch his play on one or two greens.
