Early Saturday morning, seven people were shot and injured by a spray of gunfire at a spring break party in Panama City Beach, Florida.
The gunman, David Jamichael Daniels, 22, from Mobile, Alabama was identified and apprehended at the scene. A .40-caliber handgun was found in a yard near the incident, which they believe was the weapon used, according to Chicago Daily News.
Daniels has been charged with seven counts of attempted murder and jailed. He was believed to have been accompanied by two companions from Alabama, both that were questioned, but neither of which were charged.
Police say that a flood of 911 calls came through reporting the shootings. Just before 1am, officers rushed to the scene. When the deputies arrived, they found victims sprawled out across the property, in the street and nearby the dwelling.
Three of the victims were critically injured, three were listed in stable condition, and the seventh victim who was shot in the arm, chest and knee, was brought into surgery immediately with no condition given.
Police say that hundreds of people have been arrested in the past few weeks around the area as spring break celebrations have been taking place. Officers are finding it a challenge as large amounts of college students come together, mixed with heavy consumption of alcohol which is drawing the attention of unwelcome guests to the location.
They feel that the recent circumstances in the area around spring break are a clear recipe for disaster.
When a call was made to the property of Daniels’ relatives, the woman who answered the phone, and declined to give her name, said that they would not comment on the shooting.
