Aaron Hernandez’s fiancee testifies at his murder trial

Aaron Hernandez’s fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins, took the stand today in a Massachusetts courtroom where the former New England Patriots star is on trial for a friend’s murder.

When asked, Jenkins said that her fiancée denied involvement to her in his friend’s alleged murder.

Hernandez, who has pleaded not guilty, is accused of coordinating the murder of friend Odin Lloyd on June 17, 2013. Prosecutors are saying that he and two other men picked up Lloyd from his home and took him to an industrial park near the Patriot’s Gillette Stadium, according to ABC NEWS.

Jenkins was on the stand today for four hours. She said that after she found out that Lloyd had been killed, she asked Hernandez if he was involved, and he said “no.” She claims that this was the extent of the conversation.

Jenkins and Hernandez were high school sweethearts and have been together since then. They also have a 2-year-old daughter together.
When exiting the courtroom at lunchtime, Jenkins mouthed a quick “I love you,” to Hernandez and then met with his mother and stepfather across the street for lunch.

Jenkins was granted immunity in February. When called on by the prosecution in court, a surveillance video was played for the jury that shows Jenkins removing a garbage bag from their home with what looks like a box inside. Prosecutors believe that the box contained the alleged murder weapon that has never been found.

Prosecutors also asked Jenkins about her withdrawing $500 to give to Hernandez’s friend that they said was getaway money. They said that if Jenkins did not have immunity, she would have been charged as an accessory.

When asked about other conversations with Hernandez surrounding the alleged murder, Jenkins said there was not much. When police came to their home on the evening of the murder she asked Hernandez what it was about. She says he simply said that he didn’t know.

Jenkins then drove Hernandez to the police station and again, says that there was no conversation on the way and that the two were both baffled.

Jenkins also testified that Hernandez was a frequent marijuana user, an important piece of information for the prosecution because Hernandez’s DNA was found on a blunt at the scene of the alleged crime.

Jenkins also said she could not remember the last time she saw the gun the two shared and kept in the kitchen junk drawer at their home.
