Vivica A. Fox to return as sultry Jasmine in ‘Independence Day 2’

Vivica A. Fox, who steamed up screens as plucky stripper Jasmine Dubrow in 1996’s blockbuster alien invasion hit Independence Day, confirmed today that she’ll be reprising her role in the sequel.

“It’s official that I’ll b back 4 #IndependenceDay2 sequel playing #Jasmine #LegitimateCareer #NextLevel #Blessed;),” she Tweeted on Tuesday.

Director Roland Emmerich also tweeted his pleasure at re-signing the actress.

“Exciting news… just officially closed @MsVivicaFox for #IndependenceDay! Here’s the pic!” he captioned a photo of the star on Twitter.

Although Jasmine married Captain Steven Hiller in the film, played by Will Smith, the A-list actor is not expected to return for a second round. Screenrant reports that production on David Ayer’s film Suicide Squad, which will star Smith as DC comics character Deadshot, will be starting in earnest around the same time that Emmerich will be hard at work on filming the Independence Day sequel.

Original cast members Bill Pullman, who played the President, and Jeff Goldblum, as the computer genius David Levinson who figured out how to defeat the alien interlopers, will be joining Fox for Independence Day 2. Liam Hemsworth and Charlotte Gainsbourg will also have roles in the project.

Jasmine’s son, Dylan – who became Captain Hiller’s stepson when the two get hitched – has been recast. Jessie Usher will now step into the role that was originated by actor Ross Bagley. Fun fact: Bagley also played Will Smith’s nephew Nicky on “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”

Independence Day 2 is slated to open on June 2, 2016. Although it’s been 20 years since the original opened in theaters, it doesn’t come as a surprise that a sequel is in the works – the original film earned an staggering $817.4 million worldwide.
