Shots rang out in Brookhaven, Mississippi when a man living in a trailer with a family of five went on a shooting rampage that didn’t spare any members of the family. Donna Davis, a neighbor across the street, opened her door to a horror movie scene when three survivors of the attack came pounding on her door for help. “It was like out of a horror movie,” she said. “I still see that little girl’s face in my mind.” She said there was so much blood that she thought they had been hit by a car early Friday.

 

Vitoria Sims, 29, and Jermaine Sims, 31, owned the house where the attacker and his victims were all living. They lived there with the Sims’ three children, 14, 6, and 9 years old. The 9 year old daughter and Jermaine Sims were fatally wounded and died later at the hospital. Victoria Sims and her other two children survived but were in critical condition. The three survivors had to cross a busy two-lane highway to get help.

 

Jimmy Lyons, 32, is accused of shooting the family. Lyons faces two charges of murder and three charges of aggravated assault in this case. Police Captain Clint Earls says that Lyons and Jermaine Sims had an argument that may have spurred the assault, but it is still unknown what that fight may have been about. “The only thing we are waiting on is getting some of the victims in well-enough health to where they can shed some light on what caused the incident to erupt,” Earls said.
