The woman accusing Justin Moed was the same one at the center of a controversy involving promising New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner.
An Indiana state lawmaker has apologized after online reports surfaced that he traded some sexually explicit text message with a woman who had also gone public with sexual text messages she had supposedly received from disgraced New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner back in 2013.
Democratic state Representative Justin Moed said in a statement that he was “truly sorry” that he “hurt the ones I love most with my poor judgment,” but added that it was a private matter and asked people to treat it that way, according to an Indianapolis Star report. Moed is engaged to be married in September.
The reports first surfaced on the site TheDirty.com, which claimed that Moed had responded to ad by Sydney Leathers, who was at the center of the 2013 Anthony Weiner sexting scandal. The ad stated that she wanted a submissive person she could “financially dominate,” and Moed’s naked rear end were supposedly in the texts that Leathers provided to the website.
She used a pink leash and collar that apparently accidentally included Moed’s name to prove that she was telling the truth, according to the report.
Leathers told The Star last year that she was pursuing an associate degree in radio and TV and wanted to use her notoriety to pursue adult films. She has so far appeared in four, according to the report.
The Weiner scandal in 2013 gripped New York City as voters witnessed the downfall of a promising political career. Messages between Leathers and others derailed his hopes at winning the New York City mayoral race, according to the report.
Moed, a Democrat, represents the 97th district of Indiana. He served as assistant policy director in the Democratic Party before running for office.
