Two Florida women, mother and daughter, recently gave birth at almost the same time. Not only did they deliver their children on the same day, but their babies were born in the same hour. Angela Patram, 37, and her eldest daughter, Teranisha Billups, 20, expected to have their babies in the same month when they found out they were both pregnant, but instead they ended up in neighboring delivery rooms at the same time.
A practitioner of Tampa General, Dr. Atef Zakhary comments on how shocked he was at the unexpected turn of events. “I’ve been in this field for 29 years…I’ve seen maybe 14,000 deliveries…I’ve never seen a mum and daughter deliver on the same day. And this is as close as you could get.” Ms. Patram was supposed to be induced on February 9, and Ms. Billups’ first baby was due on March 6, but the night before Patram was to be induced, Billups went into labor herself. As a result, the two women were in neighboring delivery rooms going through the ordeal simultaneously.
Ms. Patram named her fifth child Rayna Simone Patram and she came into the world at 6:29 pm. Following only 34 minutes later by caesarean section was Ms. Billups’ first child, Jerry Michaud Jr. “It’s a blessing,” Ms Patram said.
“I guess we have special babies,” Ms Billups said. “We’ll be celebrating birthdays together for the rest of their lives.”
“They’ll be very close.”
