In an interview, an Ohio terrorist explains his plans.
An Ohio man accused of attempting terrorist attacks explained the reasons behind his actions and the specifics of his plans.
Despite furious protestations from the suspected terrorist’s lawyers, a local Ohio television station has released part of an interview with Christopher Lee Cornell. Cornell called the Cincinnati station WXIX-TV from his Kentucky jail cell.
“I would have put [the gun] to Obama’s head, I would have pulled the trigger,” said Cornell. “Then I would unleash more bullets on the Senate and House of Representative members, and I would have attacked the Israeli embassy and various other buildings.”
Cornell declared himself a supporter of ISIS and confessed to planning to kill government officials in retaliation for US drone strikes in Syria and Iraq. When asked why he wanted to attack his own country, he replied it was because of “the continued American aggression against our people and the fact that America, specifically President Obama, wants to wage war against the Islamic State.”
“I got orders from the brothers overseas because I’m with the Islamic State,” said Cornell. “My brothers over there, in Syria and Iraq, gave me specific orders to carry out jihad in the West, so I did so.”
“They might say I’m a terrorist, but you know we see American troops as terrorists as well, coming to our land, stealing our resources and killing our people, raping our women.”
When asked if there were others like him, Cornell stated that there were ISIS supporters in every state. Moreover, “we’re more organized than you think.”
Cornell was arrested in January when the FBI caught him buying two M-15 assault rifles and 600 rounds of ammunition. Official had been watching Cornell for some time. Allegedly, Cornell discussed his plan to attack Washington DC to an FBI informant and explained his plan to use pipe bombs and semi-automatic weapons.
Cornell is charged with attempting to murder government officials, possession of firearms to further the attempt, and solicitation to commit a crime of violence. Each charge carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
