Gift from Prince to fans: new US tour announced

Rock icon Prince is returning to the stage with a new tour.

Prince’s promoters announced on Friday that the music legend will bring his “Hit and Run” tour to the United States, which debuted last year in Europe with a series of surprise dates, including a two-night double-header in both Paris and London.

Never one to adhere to industry standards, Prince abruptly left social media in November, which will make promoting the US dates a challenge, to say the least.

The Purple One has made a habit of spontaneity as of late, taking the stage unannounced at last month’s Grammy Awards to present Album of the Year. He also dropped two simultaneous albums in 2014 – “Art Official Age” and “Plectrumelectrum.”

Prince’s promoters were relatively tight-lipped, revealing only that his first US show for “Hit and Run” will be on March 14, and will take place somewhere in Louisville, Kentucky. The city choice may seem out of left field, but it is the home base of Hannah Welton, the drummer of Prince’s all-girl collaborating band 3rdEyeGirl, and this first show will serve as a fundraiser for local charities.

Venue details for the March 14 event have not yet been revealed, but tickets will go on sale Monday, March 9th at 10:00 a.m. local time through Live Nation.

In related news, the Boston Herald reports that Prince will be adding a new song to Rihanna’s upcoming album. An industry insider revealed: “Prince is among the most respected songwriters of all time but chooses his collaborators carefully.

“Rihanna is so chuffed he wants to work with her and is considering rushing a performance of the track into the Brits. She really wants the song to be a single.”
