Buffett auctioned off his former ride for one of his favorite charities, Girls Inc. of Omaha, which creates opportunities for young women.
A 2006 Cadillac once owned by billionaire Warren Buffet has been auctioned off for $122,500 — even though its straight-up value is only about $12,000.
Buffet, well known for his philanthropy in addition to his tremendous wealth, auctioned the car off in order to help out one of his favorite charities, according to an Associated Press report.
He put up a 2006 Cadillac DTS for sale on Proxibid with the stipulation that the money would go to Girls Inc. of Omaha. On Thursday, the car received a final bid of $122,500, and the buyer was not named.
The sedan, which is a metallic beige color, has only 20,310 miles on it and has Buffet’s autograph on the dashboard. He had offered to hand over the keys personally to the winning bidder, provided that the person was willing to come to Omaha to get the car.
Girls Inc. of Omaha, which provides educational, cultural, and recreational programs to young women, has “benefited multiple times from auction events championed by Warren Buffet,” said Roberta Wilhelm, the executive director of the nonprofit, who further stated that Buffet’s support has been “invaluable,” according to the report.
It’s not the first time Buffett has auctioned off one of his rides. Back in 2006, he auctioned off a 2001 Lincoln Town Car, which sold for $70,000.
In 1999, he raised $200,000 with one of his old wallets that even contained a stock tip.
And in 2008, he brought in $100,000 by posing for a portrait before the annual meeting of Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. It was painted by performance artist Michael Israel.
