Jeb Bush’s PAC handing out checks in key primary states

Experts say it is part of the "courtship ritual" where a party frontrunner woos the favor of key lawmakers in states where they hope to score critical early victories that will give him momentum in a presidential campaign.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is all-in when it comes to a 2016 presidential run, and the Republican frontrunner’s Political Action Committee has been spending some serious cash to put another Bush in the White House.

Jeb Bush, the brother of George W. Bush and son of George H.W. Bush, hasn’t even announced his candidacy officially yet, but it appears all but a formality at this point, and his Right to Rise PAC has donated nearly $123,000 this month to Republican players in the key primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, according to a News-Press.com report.

Bush has been raising many millions of dollars, pulling in $4.2 million on a trip through Chicago, and 25 people paid at least $100,000 each to attend a New York fundraiser during the week before that.

Bush’s PAC won’t have to unveil exactly how much it is taking in and spending until July when Federal Election Commission rules would require it. However, it has been revealed that the PAC gave to 14 incumbents, including New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte and Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley. He also gave the maximum — $10,000 — to state Republican parties in five states, including to the state he once governed, Florida.

Bush said in announcing the donations that he was “proud to support great conservative candidates,” and his spokeswoman said that he would be making more contributions to candidates going forward.

His contributions are the norm, considering he is the frontrunner for the GOP White House nomination. Keeping the political elites in critical states happy is expected, and one analyst called it part of the “courting ritual.”

The donations will help cement Bush as the frontrunner for the Republican Party’s 2016 bid. His deep pockets are likely to allow him to stay at or near the top.
