Two girls who are accused of stabbing a classmate said they wanted to please a fictional character known as “Slender Man,” and lured their friend into the woods in order to do so, police said.

Police interrogated the girls who were accused of the deed, and they described their plans to kill their friend by telling her they wanted to go bird-watching, according to an Associated Press report. They are Morgan Geyser, 12, and Anissa Weier, now 13.

The report states that one girl described the friend, Payton Leutner, as “gullible,” and they planned an attack on her May 31 in a wooded area at a park in Wisconsin. She further added that it “was sort of sad,” according to the report.

The girls, who were just 12 and 13, described the attack in tears and said they hoped to appease Slender Man, a fictional character invented on the Internet years ago who is the subject in many variations of horror stories told on web forums.

Both girls faces charges in adult court on attempted first degree intentional homicide, and could face 65 years in pirson if convicted.

They were able to stab the victim 19 times, who was able to crawl to a nearby path in the woods after her attackers had fled. The girls told her they were going to get help, but instead they were just going to leave the area and let her bleed to death.

The other girl who was allegedly involved in the attack reportedly sat in the interrogation room sometimes singing to herself. She told an investigator she “wanted to be locked up so I couldn’t hurt her.”

The girl said she dreams of Slender Man, claiming that he has “tendrils that are very sharp,” according to the AP report.

Police later found the girls walking down a highway and arrested them, and the girls said they hoped to join Slender Man in his mansion and were on their way there, the report states.
