Further developments have emerged in the Las Vegas road rage case, as police have arrested 19-year-old Erich Nowsch in connection last week’s shooting that left a Las Vegas mom dead. Robert Meyers, the husband of 44-year-old Tammy Meyers, who died last Saturday, said that their family knew Nowsch, and that Tammy had become something of a mentor to the boy, giving him food and money, and telling him to “pull his pants up and be a man.” Nowsch bragged to friends a few hours later, saying he had shot some kids who had been after him.
It was originally reported that the shooter followed the Meyers’ car home following a confrontation after Tammy had given her teenage daughter a driving lesson. Initial sympathy for the victim turned to skepticism when it was revealed that she returned home, dropped off her daughter, picked up her armed son and went looking for the shooter. They found his vehicle, a silver car, and followed him for a time but eventually went home. The silver car arrived at the Meyers home shortly afterward and Tammy was shot in the head. The daughter has now said that a man got out of the silver car and threatened that he was going to “come back for you and your daughter.”
Twenty-two year old Brandon Meyers, the shooting victim’s son, said that he did what he had to do to protect his family, and that he would do it again for anyone he loves. Brandon reportedly shot back at the silver car, and was thought to have hit it at least once. Charging documents state that Nowsch told his friends that he fired 22 times after a chase through his neighborhood, and knew that he had shot someone.
Robert Meyers arrived at the suspect’s house as SWAT teams surrounded his home and authorities worked to get Nowsch to surrender. Meyers was emotionally distraught, shouting at reporters that they made his wife look like an animal. After the arrest he told reporters that teir family knows Nowsch and that he knew where they lived. “We knew how bad he was but we didn’t know he was this bad.” He said his wife had spent “countless hours” consoling Nowsch.
Police Capt. Chris Tomaino said the police are still looking for one other suspect. Family members have said that at least three people were in the silver car. Nowsch was taken to police headquarters for questioning. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
