More information has been discovered in the story of last week’s road rage killing in Las Vegas that left 44-year-old Tammy Meyers dead. It has now been determined that Meyers went home, picked up her son, who was armed, and went looking for the man who is now suspected of shooting her, according to police Lt. Ray Steiber.
Meyers had been giving her 15-year-old daughter a driving lesson on Thursday, Feb. 12, when the initial encounter with another driver occurred. As Meyers slowly drove her daughter home after their lesson the suspect’s car sped up behind them, then pulled alongside. The daughter assumed that the person was speeding and reached over to honk the horn. The driver of the other vehicle pulled in front of Meyers’ car, stopped, and came back to confront them.
The Meyers drove home and Tammy had her daughter run in the house to get her 22-year-old son, Brandon, who brought a legally registered firearm with him. According to Steiber, they drove around the neighborhood for five to 10 minutes looking for the person who frightened them on the roadway. Steiber said that they found the vehicle they were looking for and followed it for a time before driving home.
A short time later a vehicle described as a silver or gray four-door sedan pulled up at the Meyers’ home and fired shots, one of which struck Meyers in the head. Meyers son returned fire. After the shooting was over, Brandon realized that his mother, who was behind him, had been shot. She was rushed to the hospital and died on Saturday, Feb. 14. Police were not called until after the shooting occurred.
Steiber says that it is impossible to say what was in Tammy Meyers’ mind when she went looking for the other driver. He said that all indications are that the other person fired first in the subsequent shootout. Brandon said that he believes there were three people in the car, and that he thinks one of his shots with a 9mm handgun hit the car.
The suspect in the shooting is described as a man about 6 feet tall of medium build and 180 pounds in his 20s to 30s, who was wearing a white V-neck t-shirt. He is described as having “dirty blond hair worn in a spiked style,” and blue or hazel eyes.
