Domestic shooting with multiple victims in Paoli, Indiana

Indiana State Police have confirmed that multiple victims have been shot and stabbed in the 500 block of North Helm Street in Paoli, Indiana, and two people are dead.  A spokesperson from the State Police said they were called to the home on North Helm Street late Tuesday afternoon, responding to a report of shots fired at the home.

Police found a woman in the street who was bleeding from multiple stab wounds. Officers entering the building found two children who had gunshot wounds. A man was found dead inside the home from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. A third child was found in the mother’s arms, apparently unharmed. The woman and both children were airlifted to Indianapolis and Louisville hospitals in serious condition.

Investigators identified the woman as Melissa Randolph, 33. She and her husband, Jeremy Gehl, 37, apparently became involved in a physical altercation inside their home. Gehl attacked Randolph with a knife. The 6-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter came downstairs upon hearing the commotion and Gehl shot both of them before shooting himself.

Gehl was pronounced dead by the Orange County Coroner’s office. The 6-year-old boy is in critical condition. The 3-year-old girl has been pronounced dead.

Sgt. Phillip Hensley, an Indiana State Police spokesperson, said that the community always takes it harder when a shooting involves children, particularly when one turns the gun on his own family. They asked that the community keep the family in their thoughts and prayers.

According to police, the couple may have been estranged. Police are not searching for anyone in relation to the shooting and say there is no threat to the area. The case is still under investigation.
