Dallas police officer dies in apparent murder-suicide

Dallas police officer Larry Tuttle was found dead in his northeast Dallas apartment Saturday night of an apparent murder-suicide. The body of a woman, whose name has not been released, was also found in the apartment. Both had died from gunshot wounds. Police spokesman Officer Juan Ferandez said that preliminary investigation shows that the woman shot and killed Tuttle and then took her own life. Tuttle was off-duty at the time of the shooting.

A 911 call was received by the Dallas police at 6:13 Saturday night, reporting a shooting. When officers arrived at the scene they found the two victims, as well as a 6-year-old child, who neighbors saw fleeing the apartment and crying, although unharmed. The relationship of the child and the deceased is not known at this point.

A neighbor at the scene said that they heard screams followed by multiple gun shots on Saturday night. Another neighbor said she heard “probably four of five gunshots altogether,” and then a girl crying out “Oh God, Oh God,” followed by a couple more shots.

The relationship between Tuttle and the woman is not known, although police indicated that she was known to the dead officer.

Tuttle, 40, was a 6-year veteran of the Dallas police department. He was assigned to the South Central Patrol Division. The apartment where the shooting occurred is located at 9750 Forrest Lane. The woman’s name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
