Fights continue to swirl around Bobbi Kristina Brown as she herself fights for her life. Brown’s father, singer Bobby Brown, is claiming his daughter never legally married the man she referred to as her husband, Nick Gordon.

Bobbi Christina, daughter of late legendary singer Whitney Houston, had claimed in interviews that she and Gordon, who Houston raised as an unofficial foster son, married in 2014. However, TMZ reports that Bobby Brown’s lawyer, Christopher Brown, issued a statement on Tuesday, clarifying that, “Bobbi Kristina is not and never has been married to Nick Gordon.” TMZ also writes that their sources within the Houston family agree there was no legal marriage.

The legality of Bobbi Kristina’s relationship has become more significant in the past week as Gordon himself found her facedown and unresponsive in a bathtub on Saturday in her Atlanta-area townhome.

According to NBC News, no reports about her wellbeing have been formally confirmed by police or medical staff, but she is allegedly in a medically-induced coma showing little signs of brain activity. She was reportedly moved to Emory Hospital in Atlanta on Tuesday, and police continue to investigate the incident leading to her hospitalization. At this time they have not released any indication that foul play is suspected.

TMZ suggests the Brown and Houston families are feuding, and Bobbi Kristina’s relationship to Gordon is a major source of contention. Also, Bobbi Kristina inherited her mother Whitney’s entire estate when she passed in 2012, and the issue of inheritance may be on the table.

Bobby Brown’s statement on Tuesday maintained that the family “continue[s] to request privacy at this time.” Gordon has not formally commented on the matter.
