Razer unveils new ‘Blade’ gaming laptop

PC gamers get ready: Razer Inc. has unveiled the latest version of its acclaimed “Razer Blade” gaming laptop. According to a new report from PC Magazine, the new version of the Blade will provide stronger graphics, a more powerful processor, and the same sleek design as in  the past – all without sacrificing the portability that has made the Razer Blade a popular choice among computer gaming fans.

Most of the big changes to the 14-inch Razer laptop have been made under the hood. One major hardware boost comes with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M graphics card. The 2014 version of the Razer utilized the earlier 870M version of the card.

The 970M will run on Nvidia’s new “Maxwell architecture,” which is great news for gamers. Maxwell architecture will not only offer higher-quality graphics on the Razer Blade system, but will also come with a cool “BatteryBoost” function that will increase the energy efficiency of the card. With with this new technology, the Nvidia graphics chip will be able to provide plenty of visual flash and bang without sacrificing battery life.

Also upgraded for the 2015 incarnation of the Razer Blade is the 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7-4720HQ quad-core processor. That’s a big boost over the base 2.2 GHz processing power that was possible with the 2014 version of the computer. The new model also comes with more RAM than its predecessor, 16GB versus 8GB. The base model only includes a 128GB solid-slate drive, but 512GB models are also available.

There are also a few things about the new Razer Blade that have been carried over from the 2014 model. These features include the black aluminum chassis, the three USB 3.0 ports, the one HDMI port, and the 3,200-by-1,800 resolution touchscreen display. The 10-point multi-touch feature is still on the cutting edge for gaming laptops, though, so there was no real reason for Razer to make a change there.

Perhaps best of all, the Razer Blade provides all of this power, performance, and function while also allowing for easy portability. With a 14-inch diagonal size measurement and a weight of 4.47 pounds, the laptop is roughly as easy to carry around as your average MacBook Pro.

The 2015 Razer Blade starts at $2,199, for the base model with the 128GB SSD. The gaming laptop can be purchased starting today, directly from Razer’s official website.
