The latest on Jessica Jones

Jessica jones is coming to Netflix sometime in 2015.

Netflix and Marvel struck a deal last year to bring The Defenders ensemble to the small screen. They are starting with the popular character of Daredevil  in April, which will be followed by a lesser known Jessica Jones.

Here is the official synopsis of the series, “After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter, ABC’s Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23) is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City. An enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past, Kilgrave’s reappearance will send shockwaves through the former super hero’s world.”

It was announced yesterday that none other than David Tennant, the former Doctor Who star, will be playing the major villain Zebediah Killgrave (also known as The Purple Man).

Mike Colter will also star in the show as Luke Cage.  Producer/Showrunner Mellissa Rosenberg is developing the series.

Rosenberg said, “I’m so honored and excited by the prospect of David inhabiting this multifaceted character. He can deliver the most heart-wrenching moment to the driest of lines, and all points in between. He’ll make Kilgrave a truly original villain.”

Screenrant reports, “Right now, the writers’ rooms are open and they’re looking at casting Jessica. If you sense some hesitation in my voice, that’s classic Marvel fashion. They like to keep that veil of secrecy. But Daredevil is already shooting, since that’s out first. Eventually the series will run very close together. You can then have a separate season where the characters will cross over [with ‘The Defenders’].”

A.K.A. Jessica Jones has a 13-episode series order and will premiere on Netflix sometime later this year.
