Robbie Coltrane, better known as Rubeus Hagrid from the Harry Potter series, was taken to the hospital immediately after a flight from London to Florida.
Robbie Coltrane, better known as Rubeus Hagrid from Harry Potter, was rushed to a Florida hospital on Thursday after a flight from the U.K. The 64-year-old actor reportedly had symptoms usually associated with the flu during his flight.
Coltrane was on a British Airways flight on his way to attend a Harry Potter Convention at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. He was met by paramedics who hurried him to the hospital where he was admitted over night for rest and observation.
Co-star Michael Gambon, who played the Headmaster wizard Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series, was on the same plane travelling with Coltrane. Universal Studios released an announcement stating Coltrane will no longer be taking a part in the fan event and is resting in order to feel better.

He has appeared in several screen presentations between 1979 and 2014. The actor’s other major roles include Cracker, a 90’s British TV series, The World is Not Enough, Golden Eye, and in the role of Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky in the James Bond movies.

Robbie Coltrane has been released from the hospital, according to his agent, and has been instructed to get proper rest. At this time, no further information has been released as to the cause of Coltrane’s illness.
