Prosecutors suscpicious about Lindsay Lohan’s community service claims

If prosecutors discover Lohan has falsified her community service court documents, the actress could serve jail time.

Lindsay Lohan’s lawyer Shawn Holley appeared in court on Wednesday to submit proof that the Mean Girls star has been fulfilling her court-mandated community service requirements, but not everyone is believing the 28-year-old actress’ progress. When Holley provided the court with documents claiming Lohan completed 80 hours of community service in nine days, Chief Deputy City Attorney Terry White demanded an investigation be launched to determine if the documents were falsified.

Lohan was assigned community service after her reckless driving charge in 2012, and Holley attempted to prove in court that she has been doing the work.

“She’s doing very well and completed her community service to the best of my knowledge while she was abroad,” Lohan’s attorney Mark Heller told PEOPLE after Holley’s court appearance.

Holley was not able to convince White, who expressed his doubts to the judge that Lohan could possible complete 80 hours of community service in just over a week, especially since she was receiving treatment for the Chikungunya virus she contracted over the holidays while on a French Polynesian vacation at the time.

“If this was Lindsey Smith, nobody would allow this,” White told the Associated Press. “She got to shake hands with people, and that’s community service. I’d love to hang out with a celebrity all day and see their life, but that’s not community service.”

Heller didn’t seem to be concerned by White’s suspicions, and stated that while “there’s always a lot of drama surrounding” his client, he’s confident that Lohan completed the service hours by the book.

Superior Court Judge Richard Stone gave White until Feb. 18 to verify Lohan’s service hours, even though the prosecutor said that wasn’t part of his job and that he “can’t verify what she’s doing” when abroad in London. If White can find a way to prove that the hours weren’t completed as stated in the court documents, Lohan could serve jail time.
