Lindsay Lohan managed to stay out of jail – for now.
The terminally troubled starlet had been sentenced to 240 hours of community service as punishment for ramming her Porsche into the back of an 18-wheeler in 2012. With a court date rapidly approaching on Wednesday and more than half of the hours left uncompleted, it seemed highly unlikely that Lohan would be able to finish in time. However, sources revealed that Community Service Volunteers, a non-profit organization based in the United Kingdom, will certify Lindsay has completed the 240 hours required to satisfy her probation in her reckless driving case.
Lohan had initially been required to complete her community service by November 6 of last year, but was granted a two-month extension by the presiding judge after it became clear that she needed significantly more time. She also claimed to have recently contracted the Chikungunya virus, a blood-borne infection passed from mosquitoes to humans, while on vacation in Bora Bora, which presumably hampered any community service efforts she might have made.
Despite the close call with her community service requirements, Lohan has flown relatively low under the radar since she moved to London. Her performance in the West End production of Speed the Plow received reasonably solid reviews, and she has an upcoming commercial for car insurance company Esurance scheduled to air during this weekend’s Super Bowl XLIX, where she pokes good-natured fun at her driving record.
It’s too soon to tell if Lindsay’s managed to turn the tide for good, but taking her court-ordered work seriously and actually completing it certainly seems like a good omen. The actress still has many fans in her corner, as evidenced by her nearly 9 million Twitter followers – perhaps a new, game-changing film is just around the corner?
