The FDA approved app will help diabetics better manage their health by monitoring their glucose levels in real-time.
A new app as just been approved by the Food and Drug Administration that could make the life of a diabetic a whole lot easier. The application, created and produced by Dexom Inc., based in California, will be able to monitor and share blood sugar levels and medical data in real time.
Like the medical version of twitter, users can create a list of “followers” that can see their medical information. The application sends the medical information to an internet storage center, where the follower can receive and download the information.Patients will no longer need to send their levels into their medical care professionals, instead, they can simply press a button on their smartphone and the work is done.
Dexom’s application is groundbreaking for more than a few reasons. Not only can the app itself change the way diabetics live their everyday lives –they no longer will need to work their daily schedule around testing their glucose level– but this app is expected to open the doors for so many other medical software applications. Real-time data is not a new concept in the medical field, but to put that data in the hands of patients definitely is.
The FDA’s clearance of Dexom’s product will also make it easier for future products due to the fact that they won’t need to go through the same approval process that the pioneer app did from the FDA. Instead, future products will only need to be registered with the government agency.
One very important contingency of products like Dexom’s is the accuracy of the product. Giving the patient the power to test their glucose levels in real time is wonderful and convenient — as long as it’s working properly. Patients and physicians alike must have the utmost faith in these applications for them to be successful in the general consumer marketplace.
