Buy concert tickets directly from your Google search results page

Thanks to a deal with Ticketfly, Tickmaster, and AXS, Google can now save you a couple clicks if you are looking to buy concert tickets. Earlier this week, the search engine began letting users buy tickets to live events directly from the search results page, or in Google Maps.

With this upgrade now live, when a user searches for a specific venue, an option will appear to view upcoming events directly below the venue information. From there, the user can click through and purchase a ticket. Likewise, users can also now see artist schedules at the top of the top of the page when searching for a specific musician or band.

The deal makes sense for ticket brokers like Ticketfly and Tickemaster, who clearly benefit from any process that makes it easier to buy tickets. Ticketfly told The Next Web that up to 40 percent of live event tickets go unsold due to people not knowing about events. This new search page modification will clearly rectify that somewhat.

From Google’s perspective the deal is interesting as well, since it reveals how the tech giant views the future of the “search results page.” Indeed, the company’s end-game appears to be a search platform where users actually never need to click past the results page. Information like weather and sports scores already have been appearing directly in Google search results for awhile now. Live event tickets seem to be a natural next step.

“Although it’s not the most exciting Google update ever, it’s an interesting look at the direction the search giant wants to take its core product,” writes Gizmodo’s Chris Mills.
