‘American Sniper’ on track to make film history

Clint Eastwood’s most recent project American Sniper has been shocking onlookers with its tremendous box office success.

When the film first grossed 3.4 million across four screens the film industry was surprised, but the films success has become more solidified with its nationwide release this past friday.

On the official opening day American Sniper earned blockbuster like numbers, making 30.5 million dollars.

If the film continues on this track throughout the four day weekend, the film should earn anywhere from 70-80 million dollars; which would make American Sniper the largest January opening film of all time.

Along with the film’s tremendous initial earnings, the film has been awarded several Academy Award nominations. As of now, American Sniper, is in the running for six Oscars, including best picture.

Despite all of the positivity this film has been creating for itself, film critic, Chris Nashawaty’s review in EW did not seem to hold American Sniper in the highest regard.

Along with American Sniper, both Paddington and Kevin Hart’s The Wedding Ringer, have seen some large success as well.

Paddington earned a third place spot by making 4.7 million on Friday, and The Wedding Ringer earned second place by selling 7.4 million dollars in tickets.
