Country Music Hall of Famer to partner with NBC to create television projects that are "fun and inspirational with a family audience in mind."
Over the past decade, Dolly Parton has had regular guest spots in some of her closest friends’ television shows, appearing on fellow country star Reba McEntire’s Reba and goddaughter Miley Cyrus’ Hannah Montana. Now, the Country Music Hall of Famer is ready to develop her own television projects, and will reportedly be working with NBC to make a series of two-hour TV movies inspired by her songs, personal writings and life.
During Friday morning’s Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, the network revealed that they are going to partner with Parton to create a number of films which feature her positive outlook.
“I don’t know anyone in the world who doesn’t love Dolly Parton, and the idea of developing television movies inspired by her incredible life and the stories she has sung about for decades is exciting to all of us at NBC,” said NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt, who became “very close” with the singer during his time as producer of the Broadway musical 9 to 5. “She’s just thinking about a lot of things going on in her life and things she’s written about and I had lunch with her a couple of months ago and she said, ‘You know, I’d love to see if there’s some movies we can develop out of the stories I’ve been writing about.'”
Greenblatt did not say for certain if Parton would appear in any of the films, but he noted that it was a possibility if there was “something that was right” for her as an actress. He also revealed that the network is open to the projects being musicals, and even if they aren’t, “they will have a lot of her music in them.”
Parton released a statement following the announcement, saying that she is “so excited” to be working with her “friend Bob Greenblatt” and her “longtime friend and former agent Sam Haskell.”
“We want to create projects for NBC that are both fun and inspirational with a family audience in mind,” stated Parton.
