Not satisfied with dominating the big screen, Marvels Comics will launch a TV series, streaming on Netflix in April. Daredevil, starring British actor Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, blind lawyer by day and avenging hero by night will be Marvel’s first serious entry in to the small screen. Also staring are Rosario Dawson, Vincent D’Onofrio, as Wilson Fisk, “The Kingpin” and Scott Glen as Stick”, Daredevil’s teacher and mentor.
Second in popularity in Marvel Comics history only to Spider-man, he first appeared in Daredevil #1 in 1964. As a young boy growing up in the rough and tumble Hell’s Kitchen in New York City, Matt Murdock’s life drastically changed when he pushed a blind man out of the way of a speeding truck carrying radioactive waste only to be struck by one of its containers rendering him blind. However he would discover that his other five senses had reached superhuman levels such as hearing so sensitive that he could pinpoint people in a room by the sound of their heartbeats. These heightened senses coupled with a new “radar sense” that allows him an accurate picture of his surroundings makes him a formidable adversary. Trained to use his new abilities by the blind martial artist Stick, Matt Murdock, as Daredevil seeks to protect the innocent.
Marvel had tried earlier to bring Daredevil to life in the 2003 film of the same name with Ben Affleck in the title role and starring Jennifer Garner, Colin Farrell and the late Michael Clarke Duncan but fared poorly due to lukewarm reviews.
Daredevil’s 15-episode run premieres April 10.
