Kyle MacLachlan will return in ‘Twin Peaks’ reboot

Kyle MacLachlan officially announced that he will be returning as Agent Dale Cooper for  David Lynch’s Showtime-helmed Twin Peaks revival.

MacLachlan sauntered out on stage to give the network president Dave Nevins “a damn fine cup of coffee,” his buoyant catch phrase from the original 1990 ABC series. “I’m very excited to return to the strange and wonderful world of Twin Peaks. May the forest be with you.” MacLachlan said during the presentation.

The nine-episode series, which was announced back in October, will go into production in 2015 with a premier slated for 2016. It has been reported that the new Twin Peaks will be set in the present, twenty five years after the events of the first two seasons.

The story of Agent Cooper provided the narrative backbone of the original series. Though Agent Cooper’s plot the audience was initiated into the mix of melodrama, mystery, and unsettling darkness that characterize the the town of Twin Peaks. The series left Cooper and viewers alike with a cliffhanger when it ended in 1991. His reappearance on the show is sign of confirmation that writers David Lynch and Ben Frost will be picking up the threads of that mystery, providing some answers about the original story, while in all likelihood provoking even more questions as is characteristic of Lynch’s often obscure style of filmmaking.
