The film centers around the housing and credit bubbles of the 2000s that led to a crash in 2007-08 and to a financial crisis that the world is still attempting to dig out of today.
Brad Pitt will be starring with Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling in the drama The Big Short, which centers around the housing and credit crash that caused the recession in the last decade.
The film, produced by Paramount, will be an adaptation of the Michael Lewis best-seller “The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine.” The book is about the housing and credit bubbles of the 2000s that eventually led to the collapse in 2007-08 and the eventual financial crisis that the world still finds itself in, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The script was written by Adam McKay, who is partners with comedian Will Ferrell and co-wrote the scripts for Anchorman, Talladega Nights, and The Other Guys, and also co-founded the website Funny or Die along with Ferrell. McKay is also expected to direct this upcoming film but there is not yet a timetable for that.
Pitt has starred in a Lewis film before with “Moneyball,” where he starred as Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane. Pitt is producing the film and is enlisting Bale and Gosling as stars.
However, Bale likely will work on another film before this one, according to the report. Originally, he was expected to play Steve Jobs in a film but dropped out, and may star in Fox’s “The Deep Blue Goodbye.”
Gosling is in the midst of shooting “The Nice Guys.”
Pitt is producing the movie along with DeDe Gardner through their company, Plan B.
Pitt and Plan B have been seeking to tackle serious dramas, with “12 Years a Slave” and “Selma” under their belts.
His last film was the movie “Fury,” a World War II film starring Pitt, Logan Lerman, and Shia LaBeouf. It centered around tank crews during the final days of the war in Europe.
Bale’s last film was “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” which tackled the biblical story of Moses. Gosling, meanwhile, is working on the thriller “The Nice Guys,” a crime mystery thriller film directed by Shane Black and starring Russell Crowe and Kim Basinger along with Gosling. It is set for release in June 2016.
