Bill Cosby protested against and heckled during final show in Canadian tour.
The final show in Bill Cosby’s stand-up tour in Canada was disrupted by around 30 protestors attending the event. The protestors donned shirts and signs with the slogan, “We believe the women.” The 77-year-old comedian has been the topic of heated debate as over 20 women have come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment over the course of Cosby’s several decades of notoriety. This particular protest was organized by local Hamilton writer Anne Bokma, according to a statement by CBC Hamilton.
Although the show was momentarily disrupted, all protestors, as well as 20 additional audience members that opted to leave the venue in support of the protest, were peacefully escorted out of the show. In addition to the protestors at the event itself, over 100 protesters gathered outside the venue in a separate protest.
This is not the first time that Cosby has come under fire since the allegations of misconduct have been raised against him. A heckler was recently removed from a London show after yelling out that Cosby was a rapist. Moments before the disruption Cosby had made light of the allegations against him, joking to a female audience member that she should, “be careful about drinking,” around him.
However, despite the protests and outbursts Cosby thanks his fans for supporting him, and even went so far as to commend the protestors outside the Hamilton, Ontario show for coming out in the blistering cold and defending their beliefs.
