Former Arkansas governor compares Miley Cyrus to a stripper and Jay-Z to a pimp in upcoming book.
Mike Huckabee’s new book God, Guns, Grits and Gravy releases later this month, and the former Arkansas governor filled the book with his thoughts on pop culture in hopes that he will be able to sway young voters to back him during his potential 2016 presidential run. While some readers will appreciate his familiarity with popular artists and their recent award show performances, many will take issue that he spends time in the book comparing Miley Cyrus to a stripper and referring to Jay-Z as Beyonce’s pimp.
Huckabee clearly did not want to shy away from being controversial in God, Guns, Grits and Gravy, which he made blatantly clear when he titled his chapter about government surveillance “Bend over and take it like a prisoner!” He started his thoughts on popular culture on a positive note, remarking that Beyonce is “incredibly talented” and “has an exceptional set of pipes.” The 59-year-old politician then recalled Beyonce and husband Jay-Z’s steamy performance of “Drunk in Love” during the 2014 Grammy Awards, and went on to say that her dance moves are “best left for the privacy of her bedroom.”
“Jay-Z is a very shrewd businessman,” wrote Huckabee. “But I wonder: Does it occur to him that he is arguably crossing the line from husband to pimp by exploiting his wife as a sex object?”
Huckabee proceeded to further bash Jay-Z and Beyonce, saying that he is appalled that the Obamas allow their children to listen to “Drunk in Love.”
“With the First Lady so concerned about making sure her daughters’ bellies don’t ingest unhealthy food, how can she let their brains ingest obnoxious and toxic mental poison in the form of song lyrics?”
Continuing his assault on popular artists of this generation, Huckabee went on to discuss Miley Cyrus’ controversial performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, in which she “contorted her barely-clad, barely legal-age body in a disgustingly pornographic performance that showed just about everything she had — except talent — and focused national attention on a new term, ‘twerking,’ which describes a vulgar movement better saved for a stripper pole than prime-time television.” He also made it very clear that he doesn’t approve of Rihanna’s sense of style, saying that he’s seen “dusty pickup truck windshields” that are less transparent than some of her red carpet dresses.
