A teenage girl in Florida allegedly shot and killed her brother with a gun from the parents’ bedroom, authorities said.

Police say the 15-year-old girl retrieved a gun from the bedroom of her parents and shot her 16-year-old brother at a house in White Springs in Columbia County at around 10 p.m. on Monday, according to a WJAX TV report.

The girl, Misty “Ariel” Renee Kornegay, was booked into jail without bond on a count of premeditated murder. Police have also arrested her 11-year-old sister, Nicole Kornegay, who authorities believe assisted in the killing. She was hit with the same charge, according to the report.

Authorities did not say how she assisted her sister.

Police also arrested their parents, 37-year-old Keith Kornegay and 36-year-old Misty Sheree Kornegay, on charges of neglect as they were out of town at the time of the shooting. At the time, the man was working as a truck driver three hours away and the woman was with him.

A fourth sibling, who is 3 years old, was at home at the time and was not harmed. The Florida Department of Children and Families took the child into protective custody, and will be further looking into the living conditions of the children.

The 3-year-old had been left at home after the sisters went for a walk near a store. Local police spoke to the girls, who then contacted the sheriff’s office at around 11 p.m. after they talked about a shooting at the home.

Authorities don’t believe it was an accident, but they have not released a motive yet. Police had been called to the house twice in the past, once for a vandalism report and again on a civil matter.

The four members of the family who were arrested will make a court appearance today at 7:30 a.m.
