Nicole Kidman and Jimmy Fallon talk about an awkward night they spent together in 2004 on Tuesday night's 'Tonight Show.'
Nicole Kidman is now happily married to country singer Keith Urban, but the Australian actress admitted on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show that there was a time she considered dating the talk show host. While promoting her upcoming film Paddington on Tuesday night, Kidman recalled a disastrous “first date” she went on with Fallon approximately ten years ago, and stated that the lack of chemistry between the pair made her wonder, “maybe he’s gay?”
When Kidman walked onto the set of The Tonight Show, Fallon reminded her that they met over a decade ago. He told her that he remembers one of his mutual friend was in New York City with Kidman, and offered to bring her to his apartment because she wanted to talk to him about potentially taking a role in Bewitched, which she and Will Ferrell filmed in 2004. Fallon recalled having to run to a deli so he could provide Kidman with some cheese and crackers during her visit.
“I don’t have dinner parties,” explained Fallon. “I don’t have people over to my house. I have video games and sneakers.”
“I went there and you were in a baseball cap. And you wouldn’t talk. You wouldn’t say anything,” added Kidman. “You were like, hey. And I was like, okay, hmm. And then you put a video game on or something and I was like, this is so bad.”
Upon hearing that Kidman had a crush on him the night she went to his apartment, Fallon excitedly asked the audience if that meant he technically went on a date with the award-winning actress. However, Kidman turned to the audience and remarked that if it was a date, “it was bad.”
The tension between the two clearly hasn’t changed, even though they hadn’t seen each other between the cringe-inducing date and Tuesday night’s interview. When they tried changing the subject and started talking about Kidman’s husband Urban, Kidman had to stop and laugh at the awkwardness in the room.
“We can’t even have a conversation,” she joked.
