Police suspect the shooter abducted the child, but are waiting to interview the victims before issuing an Amber Alert.
Authorities are searching for an infant who was missing from a home in Long Beach, Calif., where they found three people with gunshot wounds on Saturday.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting on West 51st Street at around 6 p.m., and they found a woman and two men in critical but stable condition. However, a 3-week-old girl named Eliza Delacruz who should have been at the residence was missing, according to a Los Angeles Times report.
Police suspect it was an adult male who shot the three victims and then grabbed the 10-pound infant and left. However, authorities had not yet issued an Amber alert as they were waiting to interview the victims.
Police are asking that the child be returned safely and has asked anyone who may information about the possible abduction to call the Long Beach Police Department at (562) 435-6711.
An Amber Alert, or a child abduction emergency, is an alert system that began in the United States in 1996. It is a backronym that was essentially named after Amber Hagerman, a 9-year-old who was abducted and then killed in Arlington, Texas. Amber Alerts are broadcast on radio stations, television stations, and other communications platforms in order to get the word out to the population who can then report sightings to the police.
Long Beach is a city that is part of Los Angeles County, and is the seventh largest city in California. It is the second largest city in the Greatest Los Angeles Area after Los Angeles itself.
