Chris Evans, the actor famous for portraying Captain America in the Marvel Studios films, has made one young fan incredibly happy.
CBS Boston reports that the 33-year-old actor spent Monday, Dec. 29, visiting children at Christopher’s Haven. The organization provides lodging for children fighting cancer and their families while they are treated at Boston Mass General Hospital for extended periods of time.
Among the children staying there is Kenny Botting, a nine-year-old boy currently battling craniopharyngioma, a type of brain tumor. The boy is also a big fan of Captain America. When Evans was told about Kenny, he wanted to meet the young fan and cheer him on.
The children were surprised when Evans walked into the room and asked where Kenny was. After he was pointed out, the actor immediately came over and shook his hand. Then he signed autographs for all of the children and gave Kenny some special gifts. The excited young fan was then given the opportunity to lead Evans on a tour of the facility.
Evans reportedly spent a lot of time playing with Kenny, at one point allowing the boy to tie him to a chair and “capture” Captain America.
At the end of the day, Kenny could not stop smiling. CBS Boston reports that the boy told Evans “I am more than happy. I just want to say thank you, thanks for coming.”
Kenny underwent brain surgery in September and is staying at Christopher’s Haven with his mother and sister while he undergoes radiation treatment.
Evans was in Boston for an upcoming fundraiser for Christopher’s Haven at Fenway Park. The Massachusetts native has always been a big supporter of the organization.
“It’s their strength that gives me strength,” Evans told CBS, “No matter what hurdles are in my life, it’s nothing compared to what these families go through, so any way I can bring a smile, it’s worth it.”
