Cancer patient receives special Christmas gift from parents

An Ohio couple made the best out of a bad situation when they decided to get married on Christmas Day in the hospital room of their cancer-stricken child.

According to the Akron Beacon Journal, William Cramer and Sarah Lewis decided to get married on December 25th at Akron Children’s Hospital. Their child, a young four-year old boy by the name of Billy, is currently being treated for cancer at the children’s hospital. Billy was diagnosed with neuroblastoma (a form of cancer that typically affects the nerve tissue in children) in November of last year. Since being diagnosed, Billy has undergone a plethora of different procedures to treat the cancer, including chemotherapy, surgery, a bone marrow transplant and more intensive chemotherapy. Thanks to all of those procedures, and a clinical immunotherapy trial that will last a few more months for Billy, there are no signs of cancer right now in the young child.

Together, William and Sarah have three children. Billy is the oldest, and they also have a two-year old named Mason, and a one-year old named Delaney.

With it being holiday season, and with extended family in town for the holidays, the couple decided that it was the perfect opportunity to go ahead and get married. They have been together for six years. According to an interview with the Beacon Journal, the couple had made plans in previous years to get married, but those plans fell through. But things just happened to work out perfectly this year with all the circumstances.

Over the span of a week or so, plans for the wedding were made and the staff at the hospital decorated Billy’s room in preparation for the nuptials just two days before the wedding. The couple was married by Sarah’s uncle, who is a Baptist preacher.

Next up for the couple is the hopeful release of Billy from the hospital upon successful completion of the treatments. After that, Sarah is planning to return to nursing school to finish up her degree, and she hopes to eventually work in the same hospital that she was married in.
