Private Investigator mocks Michael Brown’s death by song

Death is something that should never be mocked, but one private investigator in Los Angeles decided to do it anyway despite that death being one of the most controversial deaths currently in the United States.

According to TMZ, a private investigator by the name of Gary Fishell performed an inflammatory song about Michael Brown last week during a charity dinner in Glendale, California. Brown is the 18-year old Black male that was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri back in August. The officer, Darren Wilson, was not indicted on any charges for his role in the death of Brown. Brown’s death, along with a grand jury’s subsequent decision not to indict Wilson, set off mass protests across the country; protests that are still going on to this day in light of Brown’s death, and the deaths of other Black males across the country in recent months by the hands of law enforcement.

According to the person who recorded the video, no one objected to the song while it was being performed. The main lyrics from the song talked about Brown being a thug that was now “dead, dead” and “deader than a roadkill dog.”

The song was performed at a dinner at theĀ Elks Lodge in Glendale, California. The dinner served as the cap for a charity golf event orchestrated by a retired police officer of the LAPD. About half of the people who attended the event are believed to be current or retired police officers.

Fishell has released a statement through his lawyer. While he didn’t necessarily apologize for the song, he did say that he realizes that the song was “off color and in poor taste.” He also added that the reason he performed the song in front of a room full of cops was because “he thought that the room would get a kick out of it.”

The LAPD is now investigating the event to see if any of their current officers were involved or attended the event.
