Actress Cameron Diaz and musician Benji Madden are reportedly engaged after only a seven-month dating period. The couple was originally introduced by Nicole Richie, who is married to Joel Madden, Benji’s twin brother. Clearly Nicole did right, the couple took their relationship public in May.
Cameron Diaz is currently starring in the film remake of the musical Annie alongside Jamie Foxx. Diaz plays the villainous Miss Hannigan, guardian of little orphan Annie. Benji Madden is one part of the rock band Good Charlotte, alongside his brother Joel.
The allegedly newly-engaged couple were spotted arriving at JFK airport together on Dec. 19, where Diaz was not being shy about the stacked rings on her engagement finger. One might even say she was flashing them, along with a huge grin as she passed the cameras. Cameron has also been spotted flashing her rings without explanation during promotions for Annie.
A source that spoke to US Weekly shared that Benji tends to fall in love quickly and that he is a bit more traditional than Cameron when it comes to tying the knot, but that the couple is very happy together and that the timing seems right. Diaz and Madden have reportedly known each other for years, so perhaps friendship was the seed that grew into their current relationship.
The 42-year-old star has previously been linked to men like Matt Dillon, Justin Timberlake, and Alex Rodriguez. Benji on the other hand, has has been linked with Paris Hilton and Sophie Monk. Cameron has open about discussing being open to marriage if it happened with the right person but not exactly looking for it, but it seems like she has met her match.
She has recently been quite candid about the lessons she has learned throughout her dating history and what has changed as she has grown and matured. “We girls sometimes do the thing where we pick the same person over and over again,” she shared. “They look and seem different, but deep down, they’re the same. And that’s on us.’
Diaz had some sound and mature advice about relationships when she spoke with Cosmopolitan magazine for an interview in January. “No matter how old you are, finding the guy who’s in the same place as you are and wants to show up is the only way a relationship works, period,” she shared.
Back in July, Nicole Richie stated to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live that she fully fully prepared to “take responsibility for everything” in regards to setting the couple up. Looks like a celebration is in order.
On whether Cameron is looking to start to family, she has shared that she is open to the idea, but on her own terms. “If children come to me, then I would do that,” she started. “But I’m not someone who feels like she has to do something because it’s expected.” Despite the speculation and hard-to-ignore ring sign, no reps of Diaz have yet responded for comment.
