A short film will be released in theatres with Disney's live action Cinderella movie.
Disney isn’t about to let Frozen go any time soon. A new short film based on the original movie will appear in theatres in 2015.
Entertainment Weekly had reported in September that the short was in the works. Titled Frozen Fever, it will follow the main characters Kristoff the ice-gatherer and Elsa the queen with magical snow-creating powers as they attempt to throw a birthday party for Elsa’s sister Anna. Fan favorite character Olaf the Snow Man will of course also be featured.
Frozen Fever will reunite the same creative team behind the original Frozen movie, including directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee and producer Peter Del Vecho. Songwriters Ropert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, honored for their song Let it Go with an Oscar, are also returning. Frozen not only won an Oscar for Best Animated Movie in 2014, but has earned over $1.27 billion dollars in ticket sales worldwide, making it the most financially successful animated film ever.
Disney announced on Wednesday that Frozen Fever will appear in theatres shown in front of the company’s live-action film Cinderella. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, Cinderella stars Lily James as the title character and Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother. It is scheduled for release on March 13, 2015.
The Frozen sequels may not be done then, however. In a recent interview with Telegraph, star Idina Menzel was asked about rumors of both a stage show and a full-length movie sequel to the film. She replied, “they’re all in the works!” but no dates have been formally announced.
