There may be a new 'Star Wars' trailer scheduled to be shown before screenings of 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'.
Star Wars fans from all over look to May 4 all year, and this year could prove even more special. It has been reported by SlashFilm that a new trailer for The Force Awakens is set to appear before screenings of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The much-anticipated Joss Whedon-directed Avengers sequel bursts onto movie screens all across the country on May 1, 2015. Both Marvel and Lucasfilm are under the Disney umbrella after the two were acquired in separate deals over the last couple of years.
The first official teaser trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens debuted last Friday in theaters and online, according to IGN. So far the trailer has been viewed over 40 million times, and is on its way to setting a few records, according to CNET Money.
The teaser has also sparked a couple of conversations. One is the fact that the new lightsaber design in the teaser features one with three blades: one long one like the original, and two smaller ones that make it resemble a knight’s sword. The other controversy revolved around the fact that the storm trooper featured in the teaser is black, to which the actor, John Boyega, replied via his Instagram page, “Get used to it.”
Many responded to the outcry on Twitter, like writer Iain Macintosh who tweeted, “They’ll accept an alien-filled galaxy powered by ‘force’ but they’re not having a black man in uniform?” Joseph Oteng also tweeted that a galaxy far far way can have black people who are also dynamic characters.
Although there is speculation that that there may be a new teaser before May, nothing has been confirmed by Disney or anyone involved with the new Star Wars movie. The amount of secrecy surrounding the upcoming installment of the franchise is no secret to those familiar with the work of J. J. Abrams. Part of his style is keeping everything that relates to the movie under wraps until he is ready for the public to know.
The Abrams-directed Star Wars movie, an official plot for which is yet to revealed, will take place 30 years after the conclusion of Return of the Jedi, and will have Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill reprising their iconic roles. The Force Awakens will also introduce a new set of characters to carry the franchise into the future including Adam Driver and Gwendoline Christie. The movie is set to be released on Dec. 18, 2015.
Avengers: Age of Ultron will see the return of Robert Downey, Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans in their respective roles. The main villain, Ultron, will be voiced by actor James Spader of NBC’s The Blacklist, and will see the addition of Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver and Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch.
The next Avengers movie is all part of a lineup of movies Marvel announced in late October. Future movies, which have been scheduled into 2017, include a third Captain America movie, a third Thor installment, another Guardians movie as well two more Avengers movies. They will introduce some characters from the Marvel world such as Black Panther, Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel.
