A six-minute short will accompany the original film when it is released back into theaters this holiday season.
The hugely popular Disney animated hit “Frozen” will be getting its long-awaited sequel, according to an interview with one of the actresses.
Idina Menzel, who voices grown-up Elsa in the animated musical smash hit, said in a recent interview that a sequel is in the works, according to a Guardian report.
Menzel said she hopes to be in the follow-up film, which grossed $1.27 billion worldwide. She didn’t reveal much about the sequel, other than to say that it’s in the works, and that she’s “just going along for the ride.”
Frozen currently holds the record for the highest-grossing animated film, topping Toy Story 3. It is also the highest-grossing musical, beating out the Lion King and Mamma Mia! It is the 5th highest grossing movie of all time. Only Avatar, Titanic, The Avengers, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 pulled in bigger box office figures in Hollywood history.
Frozen beat out such massive hits as Iron Man 3, the Lord of the Rings franchise, Skyfall, the Dark Knight Series, the Pirates of the Caribbean, and many many others.
Disney itself has confirmed that it intends to continue with the story of Elsa, the ice-wielding queen, and her sister Anna, and said it will produce a six-minute short film. The short will debut when Frozen comes back to cinemas for the holiday season.
A stage production of Frozen will also be created, according to Menzel, who said she was unsure of her role in either project, although she was “hopeful” about her involvement in the film.
