About 200 passengers were evacuated from the plane after someone made a phone call to a Port Authority worker.
Authorities searched an airplane at JFK International Airport Sunday in New York after receiving an airport, but didn’t find anything dangerous on the aircraft.
The plane, American Airlines Flight 67 bound for Barcelona in Spain, was stopped on the runway by first responders, who had the aircraft towed to a secure area off the runway, according to a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and the New Jersey police, states an NBC New York report.
Passengers were told to exit the plane. Each were interviewed by officials before being taken to a bus and then to customs. After sweeping the aircraft, officials deemed that the threat was false.
The pilot made the announcement about a bomb threat on some plane at the airport to the passengers, although they weren’t informed it was their plane that was the subject of that investigation until they were told to leave the aircraft.
A passenger indicated that there wasn’t any panic aboard the flight despite the announcement as most people didn’t seem to think it was a credible threat.
American Airlines issued an apology to the 200 passengers.
Authorities used four bomb-sniffing dogs to search the aircraft, but came up empty. It was until after the passengers collected their luggage and waited on the tarmac to be picked up that they were informed of the reason of the evacuation.
The threat was received via phone by a Port Authority worker.
