Black Friday got violent at a crowded Nordstrom in downtown Chicago, with a man and a woman dead from a shooting that took place there.

The man who died was the one who opened fire at 8:30 p.m. Friday on the second floor of the store, located on the corner of Grand and Wabash streets, according to police, who say he shot a 22-year-old woman before turning the gun on himself, according to MyFoxChicago.com.

The woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she died the next day. Authorities identified the shooter as 31-year-old Marcus Dee. Police say Dee knew his victim, and that he had filed a petition for a no-contact order in April 7 claiming that the victim’s sister was stalking him, but the judge denied the request. The victim’s sister filed a similar petition asking the court for a restraining order, which was also denied by the judge.

The victim’s brother claimed that Dee had been tormenting his sister for a long time. Police say the shooter had been a boyfriend of the woman at some point. Her sister said she dated Dee from August 2012 and broke up in December 2013 due to physical and mental abuse throughout the relationship, which continued when the two separated.

She said the reason her petition was thrown out by the judge was because she was not the victim. She said Dee would constantly call her sister to threaten her or to say he was going to kill himself, prompting the victim to repeatedly change her phone number.

Nordstrom Chicago announced its decision to close its store on Saturday but would reopen on Sunday. A sign posted on the door of the store stated that “due to the tragic situation that occurred in our store yesterday, our store is closed today.”

The woman said she was visiting her sister this week to celebrate her birthday, which took place on the day of the shooting. She wanted to surprise her sister, but she never came hom from work. She said her sister had a passion for writing, and graduated from high school at the age of 16 because of her high intelligence.
